It sweeps in silently on the wind. A sudden sheet of rain is thrown at the window, rattling like gravel on windows and roofs. As quickly as it arrives, it disappears.

Golden tresses wave in the pale sunlight. Fire colours flicker – red, yellow, orange. Leaves slowly burning, their tiny flames fanned by the bitter winter wind.

21st October 2013 – sign

It used to advertise a public house. A tall wooden pole, pushed securely into place well over a century ago. Its decorated metal panel, squeaking and swaying in the autumn wind and rain, now proclaims a doctor’s surgery.

9th October 2013 – horse

Front hooves balance on the edge of the horsebox window. His sculptured face and soft nose are turned towards the wind as it rushes past. He revels in the feel of it, his mane blowing out behind him.

18th May 2013 – canal

The water is still, disturbed only by small wind eddies. The trees’ summer leaves reflect in its mirror-like surface. A swan swims serenely by, four cygnets staying close as she dips her head to feed.

Graceful, it catches the wind like a bird. Its white wings turn, producing energy which is almost visible, fizzing and whirling between its blades, as they move against the bright blue sky.

Pillowcases fill like balloons. A duvet cover prepares to set sail. The prop becomes a pendulum, ticking away their drying time. Bright yellow colours blowing, slaves to their windy mistress.
