22nd October 2013 – spider
She sits right in the middle of the small pane of glass, hanging as if levitating from the smooth surface. Her Halloween-black body looks relaxed, legs splayed. A gust of wind catches her fragile home, yet still she clings on, … Continue reading

27th September 2013 – autumn sunrise
The weakening light struggles to pierce the early morning clouds. A watercolour wash of pinks and oranges faintly tints them from underneath. The sun floats to the surface, serene and pale.

24th September 2013 – gaffer tape
A man leans over, tearing and sticking. Laid in strips across the yellow inflatable’s surface, it covers the puncture, just about. Until a new one can be bought, this will have to do.

26th July 2013 – toys
They bob on the pool’s surface, abandoned. Plastic primary colours contrast with the sunlit, brilliant blue of the water. The joyful babies who played with them are gone, but still they float, awaiting their return.

19th June 2013 – meadow
A pale pink mist of vetch flowers hovers over the surface. Pale grasses, dried by the warm summer breeze, sway above them. The whole moves like a rippling lake, stretching to the green-leaved trees beyond.

4th June 2013 – chocolate
In the bowl with the butter, it melts slowly. Squares become circles, then simply lumps, like bubbles, on the surface. Dark brown and shiny, it swirls around the spoon like liquid gold.

23rd May 2013 – moon
Almost full, it looks paper thin; stamped pale against the blue evening sky. It’s surface is dappled with the shadows of its craters; a different planet hanging over our indifferent one.
