10th December 2013 – nest

Branches stripped bare reveal its black shadow against the pale grey sky. A Spring-built, careful little bundle of sticks, moss and hope. Now it hangs abandoned, its usefulness spent, waiting for its time to come again.

15th April 2013 – nest

Twig by twig I’ve seen it appear, fat and pendulous in the bare branches of the tree. A magpie perches on its sturdy edge, looking proud and strong. His chicks will be safe here, all Spring long.
