Small and rubbery, they resist the knife. Their brown dryness splits into greying slithers. They look unappetising, yet they will turn from fungi to nectar in the casserole dish.

2nd June 2013 – bumble bee

It buzzes busily around an early-flowering plant. Its bright yellow flowers are attractive and full of nectar. Moving happily from one to the next, it fills its stomach with this life-giving gold.
