Pecking not at wood but frozen ground, its crimson head searches for food in this sparse season. Flying up to its natural home, it is immediately hidden by the autumn leaves still clinging on to life.

10th November 2013 – glider
Flying low over the common, its red nose and wing tips flash in the sunshine. Its sharp silhouette cuts through the pale blue of the winter sky, bright white and beautiful.

9th July 2013 – seagull
Flying low over the trees, calling out with its distinctive caw. The setting sun catches its belly. It floats past, wings outstretched, the jumbo jet of the feathered world.
