Golden tresses wave in the pale sunlight. Fire colours flicker – red, yellow, orange. Leaves slowly burning, their tiny flames fanned by the bitter winter wind.

9th November 2013 – fence

Damp with dew in the early morning sun. As it warms, steam begins to rise. A cold fire burning as the day dawns clear.

17th October 2013 – red sky in the morning

A shepherd’s warning. The sky is blood-red, cloud-clotted. Lit by a fiery glow, as if the gates to hell lie just beyond the horizon. Minutes pass and the fire dies down, replaced by a normal autumn grey.

10th July 2013 – leaves

As the evening sunlight hits them, they begin to catch fire, like Icarus’ wings. They shed their green for the glowing orange, but their fall will not come until Autumn.

21st May 2013 – vapour trail

It lengthens slowly across the colour-drained sky of dusk. A streak of fire, lit up by the orange sunset. A man-made peril rendered beautiful by nature’s change from day to night.
