17th October 2013 – red sky in the morning
A shepherd’s warning. The sky is blood-red, cloud-clotted. Lit by a fiery glow, as if the gates to hell lie just beyond the horizon. Minutes pass and the fire dies down, replaced by a normal autumn grey.

27th September 2013 – autumn sunrise
The weakening light struggles to pierce the early morning clouds. A watercolour wash of pinks and oranges faintly tints them from underneath. The sun floats to the surface, serene and pale.

22nd August 2013 – earrings
They nestle in the little cardboard box on a pad of cotton wool. Her first pair of proper studs – little pink boots. She says they look like they are dancing on a cloud.

22nd May 2013 – dandelion clock
She blows at it in that small child way. Lips pursed forward, air rushing out in a cloud of spittle. Telling the time in one big blow, sending the seeds fluttering damply to the ground.
