He hops unexpectedly into my path, his dulling, Christmas-red breast catching my eye. In his beak is a small insect, his next contribution to his growing brood. Winter is over and Summer is here.

8th March 2013 – rain
A steady downpour, this won’t let up for the day. A bright-beaked blackbird makes the most of it. He fluffs up his wings and tail feathers, revealing their grey detailing as he enjoys a shower.

26th January 2013 – blue tit
Sitting on a telephone wire, silhouetted against the bright morning sky, his chest is puffed out proudly. Opening his tiny beak, he broadcasts his presence to the whole blue tit world – I am here and this is my town.
