10th January 2013 – mushrooms

A handful of dried mushrooms are soaking in a small, white cereal bowl full of boiling water. A rich, chestnut-brown colour starts to leach out of them, swirling like ink. The dark, earthy smell of them reaches my nostrils, transporting me to an Autumn woodland.

    I really enjoyed this. Evocative and engaging so many of the senses. Oh for autumn again in this wet and dreary winter gloom.
